Easy Swiss and Gruyère Fondue…

I just got back from the wilderness and all I could think about while I was out there was a creamy cheese fondue. I’ve combined the ever so popular Swiss/Gruyère with some parmesan and white wine, YUM!

I don’t even have a fondue pot, but I’m winging it today. Where there is warm and melted cheese served with little dippers, I am a happy camper. 😉

Swiss and Gruyère Fondue (Servings: 2-3)

  • 1-1/2 cups Swiss (grated)
  • 1-1/2 cups Gruyère (grated
  • 1/8 cup Parmesan (grated)
  • 2 garlic cloves (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 cup of white wine
  • 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • sprinkle of fresh nutmeg
  • sprinkle of cayenne to top

Toss the cheese and garlic together with the cornstarch.

In a small pot simmer the white wine. Add in the cheese, slowly stirring on medium-low heat until smooth and creamy. Next, add in the dry mustard and stir.  Grate some fresh nutmeg over top.

Pour into a bowl or fondue pot and sprinkle just a touch of cayenne pepper —  serve. 🙂

For dippers I heated up some fresh french bread wrapped in tin foil so it stayed nice and soft. Then I sliced the warm bread into cubes. I also chopped up some green apples.

Some other ideas…hard salami, pre-cooked ham and turkey cubed, baby carrots, celery, small pickles, the list goes on…
